FAO Pacific Sub-Regional Coordinator Presents Letter of Credence to Deputy Secretary Pretrick
On September 20, 2017, Ms. Eriko Hibi, Pacific Sub-Regional Coordinator for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) presented her credentials to the Honorable Deputy Secretary Samson Pretrick of Foreign Affairs as FAO’s Representative to the FSM. Ms. Hibi assumed her post as the Sub-Regional Coordinator for the Pacific Islands (SAP) in September 2016 but had yet to be accredited to the FSM as FAO’s Representative until the presentations. Her area of jurisdictional responsibility covers 14 Pacific countries and she is responsible for FAO’s programs with the 14 member countries in the Pacific region. She oversees FAO’s technical works and support to improve food security, agriculture, fisheries and forestry, and increasing resilience of small farmers and producers in the Pacific Island Countries. Prior to joining FAO, Ms. Hibi had served with another UN agency, namely the United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA) in various duty stations. She is a Japanese national who speaks Japanese, English, French and Russian. The Sub-Regional office for the Pacific Islands is based in Apia, Samoa which serves as a technical hub supporting the 14 countries in the Pacific.
Deputy Secretary Pretrick congratulated Ms. Hibi on her accreditation as FAO’s Representative. He conveyed FSM’s appreciation to FAO for the various assistances such as projects and trainings that FAO had provided. And he expressed FSM’s commitment to working closely with FAO to continue to strengthen cooperation through economic and social development. Attending the presentation of credentials were staff from the Departments of Foreign Affairs and Resources & Development.
