Signing ceremony of the Energy Activity Partnership Arrangement between New Zealand and FSM
On Friday, September 15, 2017, in Palikir, Pohnpei, the FSM Government held a signing ceremony between the governments of New Zealand and the Federated States of Micronesia on the Energy Activity Partnership Arrangement. The agreement is a part of New Zealand Government’s assistance to the North Pacific Region for the development of renewable energy initiatives.
Earlier this year, the New Zealand Government awarded FSM 1.3million USD for the project. Through consultations between FSM National Government and the four state governments, the Pohnpei Utilities Corporation (PUC) was designated as the location of the project.
During the signing ceremony, Secretary Lorin S. Robert thanked Ambassador Karena Lyons, who was signing the agreement on behalf of the New Zealand Government on the project. He also reiterated the FSM’s appreciation for New Zealand’s continued assistance and support to the FSM in other areas of cooperation. Signing on behalf of the Pohnpei Utilities Corporation (PUC) was Iso Nahniken John Adolph, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for Pohnpei Utilities Corporation.
In attendance at the signing ceremony were Secretary Marion Henry of the Department of Resources & Development, officials and staff from Foreign Affairs, FSMR&D and PUC.
