Vice-President George Receives the Ambassador of the Russian Federation

On the occasion of his visit to the FSM from May 3 to 6, 2017, His Excellency Ambassador Igor A. Khovaev, paid a courtesy call on Vice-President Yosiwo P. George on May 4, 2017, at 9:00 am, in the President’s conference room. The purpose of the visit was to discuss issues of mutual interest for the two countries.

Vice-President George welcomed Ambassador Khovaev and thanked him for taking the time to visit FSM again. During the call, Ambassador mentioned Russia’s interest to promote ties with the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) at the bilateral and multilateral levels. Other matters that were discussed during the call were the possibility of appointing a non-resident Ambassador of FSM to Russia and an Honorary Consul of Russia in FSM to help promote cooperation between the two nations. Also mentioned during the call was the Mutual Waiver of Visa Requirements for the nationals of the two countries, which both countries are aiming to complete all necessary domestic procedures prior to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September 2017, where both countries anticipate to sign the Agreement.

The visit was the third time for Ambassador Khovaev to visit the Federated States of Micronesia. He visited Yap before his visit to Pohnpei, where he had meeting with Governor Tony Ganngiyan and other Yap State Government Officials.
