United States Accepts Mr. Akilino H. Susaia as Ambassador of the Federated States of Micronesia

Having been recently appointed by President Peter M. Christian to serve as Ambassador of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) to the United States of America (US) on Thursday March 16, 2017, the US Embassy in Pohnpei, in accordance with Diplomatic Protocol, officially confirmed with the FSM Department of Foreign Affairs of the United States’ acceptance of Mr. Susaia’s appointment to this esteemed and important post.
With the confirmed acceptance, Mr. Susaia will depart from the FSM (Pohnpei) during the latter part of March to assume the head post of the Embassy in Washington D.C, which, in light of the unique and special partnership between the FSM and the United States, is considered one of the most important, yet challenging, diplomatic post for the country. Succeeding former Ambassador Asterio Takesy, Ambassador Susaia is the fourth Ambassador to the United States of America, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on November 3rd, 1986. Mr. Susaia had served previously as the Ambassador of the FSM to the People’s Republic of China.
As dictated by standard diplomatic protocol, Ambassador Susaia will arrive in Washington D.C. carrying the portfolio as Ambassador-designate until he formally presents his Letter of Credence, signed by President Peter M. Christian, to President Donald J. Trump. This final process will complete his accreditation as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federated States of Micronesia to the United States of America.
