In coordination with the FSM Department of Resources and Development,
the FSM Embassy participated in the 2016 China International Travel Mart
(CITM) in Shanghai from November 10-13, 2016.
The FSM was a member of the Pacific delegation organized by the
South Pacific Tourism Organization (SPTO).
The CITM has become a valuable platform in the tourism market
and demonstrates China’s inbound and outbound potentials.
China has been the largest outbound tourism spender for the past
four years and contributes 13% to the global tourism revenue.
Over 2,500 exhibitors from China and abroad participated in this
year’s CITM. International
travel agents from over 100 countries were present to showcase and
invite China’s outbound tourists.
Aside from the Pacific booth, Hawaii, Guam, and Saipan also had
their own individual booths.
The Pacific delegation was welcomed
to Shanghai by the leading officials of the China National Tourism
Administration (CNTA). A
meeting was held with CNTA Vice Chairman Du Jiang.
In the meeting, both sides acknowledged the good relationship
between China and the Pacific and shared the desire for cooperation in
the area of tourism. Vice
Chairman Du expressed his desires to support the Pacific and looks
forward to doing more with SPTO as a member of the organization.
The Pacific delegation was comprised of delegates from the Cook Islands,
FSM, Fiji, Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga and Vanuatu.
Deputy Chief of Mission Vincent
Sivas represented the FSM.
